Week 10 Deliverable 4

This deliverable did give me a hard time. Here's what I did and this worked for me. When I added the orthoimagery layer and selected base heights, making sure that the stadium layer was selected, I selected the search folder and for the layer I selected baua_dem layer and for the offset I left it at zero.
This worked for me and I was able to complete the project.

Law Enforcement: Crime Activity

Law Enforcement: Crime Activity

I did have troubles creating the buffers, but thanks to the recommendations on helping each other, I used the old vm to create the buffers.

Own Your Own: Scenario

Mrs. Ramos currently lives in Chicago, IL and will like to move somewhere near Miami along with her husband when they retire. They will like to live near the Miami International airport since they will be doing a significant amount of traveling to the Caribbean. They will also like to be near one of the best hospitals since they know that as they get older more doctor visits are needed. They know that Miami is an area that attracts young people so they will like to live in an area where the majority of the age group is between 50-64. And finally they will like to live in a neighborhood where the house values are high. They were specific to say that their main concern is the age group and median house value of the area where they will like to live.

On Your Own: Weighted Overlay

Based on the weighted overlay map, the best location to live where the percentage of age is 50-64 and the median house value is high is near Kendall and Pinecrest City. The areas are near the coast. They are also near the Baptist Hospital of Miami and Miami International Airport, which is not that far away from these areas.
Road Blocks: I tried to create different % of influence, such as, 10,10,50,30 or 10, 30, 30, 30, but I kept getting an error. The error stated that the weights didn’t add up to 100. Going back to the weighted overlay process the 30% of influence kept changing to 29%.

On Your Own: Site Selection Parameters

I documented the map, set the environments and set the coordinates in the data frame properties before creating the map. I created the 4 insets to show the 4 parameters needed for selecting the best location. The distance from the airport, the distance from the hospital, the percentage of age 50-64 and the median house value in the census tracts was created. I calculated the distance from the airport and hospital and reclassified into 9 categories and interval size of 10,000. I downloaded the median house values from the factfinder website. Then converted the census tracts with the percentage of age and the median house values to rasters.
The viewer will notice that best location will be along the coast, but also near the airport and hospital. The locations near the coast have a high percentage of age 50-64 and high median house values.

On Your Own: Retirement Site Selection Base Map

The map contains the county boundary from Miami-Dade, cities, census tracts and the residential areas. The data was obtained from www.FGDL.org website. The data was provided for the entire state of Florida. Before creating the map I explored the data in ArcCatolog to obtain the projection needed. I documented the map, set the environments and set the coordinates in the data frame properties. To create the base map, selection by location was used to select the data only within the Miami-Dade county boundary. The base map was created to give the viewer a perspective of the county and the residential areas in the county.
